Shares of Credit Suisse Group $CS has been essentially sideways throughout 2017. When we look at the price action since 2016 we can see that it has been consolidating after a bearish trend.CS Weekly Chart(click to enlarge)Price Bottom?- The weekly chart shows that price action has flattened since 2016, although there was a downward push towards 10.00 in the first half of 2016. - Also, we have to acknowledge that price action is NOT bullish, as long as it holds under the key resistance around 16.00.- However, we can see that there has been higher highs and higher lows since price almost tagged 10.00.2017 False Bearish Breakout:- When we focus on the 2017 price action, we can also extract a bullish signal.- Price action started the year sideways, but broke below the range support in June. - But it turned out to be a FALSE bearish breakout, because price eventually came all the way back up to the shared resistance.- This false breakout to the downside suggests a subsequent bullish breakout.Bullish Breakout Scenario:- So far, price is still holding under 16 and the Weekly RSI is still holding under 60 (signs AGAINST the bullish outlook).- BUT, if price closes a trading week above 16, and the RSI pushes above 60, we might have a price bottom.- In this scenario, we can anticipate upside towards 20-21, which is around a previous support pivot and the 200-week simple moving average.
